Self Understanding - Art

In Self Understanding, a dark, monochromatic color scheme and strong lines create an evocative piece that touches on themes of identity. This painting is dark, with strong black lines and a faded gray background. The dark color scheme of this piece illustrates the dark nature that a person’s sense of identity can sometimes take on. The interior of the mind is a mysterious place, and many hidden dangers lurk in the unseen darkness. Deep-seated fears are a large component of one’s basic identity, and these fears often determine the way a person sees himself or herself.
The strong black lines of this piece meander across the painting’s landscape in an abstract, shapeless design. The curves of the lines are without any distinct pattern, and they wander freely and without inhibition. This free movement of the lines in the painting reflects the fluid nature of the mind. Thoughts and feelings move across the synapses of the mind in seemingly random patterns. Self Understanding is a mysterious piece that alludes to the nature of the mind and its understanding of self.
